Happy Birthday to the U.S.A.! I know it’s raining here and there, and the fireworks have been postponed, but I hope you have a wonderful holiday! 1. Team of Rivals – This is a great book about President Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin
2. 1776– Love this one by David McCullough
3. John Adams– The man was a genius. This one is also by David McCullough
4. The Adams-Jefferson Letters– A very interesting read by Lester J. Cappon
5. Eyes on the Prize– A book about the civil rights years by Juan Williams
6. A People’s History of the American Revolution: How Common People Shaped the Fight for Independence– This book explores a side of the revolution that is not often talked about. It’s by Ray Raphael.
7. Benjamin Franklin-The man was a diplomat, scientist and statesman, and then some. This is by Edmund S. Morgan
8. The Stamp Act Crisis: Prologue to Revolution: So how did the Revolution actually start? This book examines the Stamp Act and Boston. The author is Edmund S. Morgan
9. Crispus Attucks: Hero of the Boston Massacre by Anne Beier. This book introduces Crispis Attucks, former slave and first to die in the Boston Massacre.
10. Rebecca Dickinson: Independence for a New England Woman by Marla Miller. This book includes excerpts from Dickinson’s journal which gives context to the lives of some women before and during the American Revolution.
